Stellar talks about the changes seven months after their 'sexy controversy'

Article: [Interview] 7 months after their '19+ concept' controversy, Stellar reveals, "We are now the ending stage of army concerts"

Source: Sports Chosun via Naver

What changes have you experienced seven months after the controversy?

"People recognize us a lot more. At army performances, we're now able to land the ending stage, which is only given to the best girl groups. When our stage starts, soldiers push to the front to see us closer and it makes us laugh seeing the audience dance along with us."

Gayoung: "To people who don't like skin exposure, it's true that they're uncomfortable with us. But even those people have begun to wonder what we brought out next with our new song release and a lot more have listened to it."

1. [+1,206, -40] How upsetting that we live in a generation where singers must now strip in order to gain popularity...

2. [+685, -29] I'm more curious about 4L than Stellar... why is it so quiet...

3. [+539, -146] I'd rather singers like Ori than them

4. [+108, -6] Their music video was indeed the dirtiest I've seen in the history of K-Pop

5. [+103, -4] Well duh, soldiers don't care who you are as long as you show the most skin possible

6. [+83, -4] A shame that the innocent woman from 1N2D was made into a slut ㅡㅡ

7. [+82, -3] I remember reading in an older interview about how they have to rip their clothes off if others simply take their clothes off. It's unfortunate for smaller agencies who have to resort to it since they don't get the same opportunities even with good concepts.

8. [+79, -4] If my daughter ever did something like this, I'd shave her head and send her to the temple.

w/e i really like them. the music that came along with their sexy concept is actually rllllllly good

    ReplyDelete
  6. Marionette was a really good song though

    ReplyDelete
  7. I hate how when girl groups do sexy concepts they're automatically called a "slut". Smfh.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Sure, it did get you recognition during your promotion period but after a while, what? It really is sad we live in a generation where exposing skin is being justified with temporary popularity and girls choose to be recognized by their silly antics instead of their talents.

    ReplyDelete
  9. God bless that future child.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Their songs are so good though.

    ReplyDelete
  11. The dance for 'Marionette' was awkward to watch but the song was good. Good luck to the girls!

It is really upsetting that a lot of groups have to strip/do sexy concepts to really get noticed, but Korea's "sexy" isn't that bad for international fans, like myself, who see way worse. Marionette was an awkward mv, but the song wasn't bad.

Hope for the best for Stellar!

    ReplyDelete
  13. But the fact people associate them with this label isn't something they can be proud of. They may get their name out there but it's not a positive one. I feel bad for them.

    ReplyDelete
  14. 3. [+539, -146] I'd rather singers like Ori than them

Lol Ori was pretty entertaining. More iconic than some stars.

Not their blame if people only give attention for a group with something '''shocking''' and Mask is one of the best songs this year btw

    ReplyDelete
  16. No, there's no slut here. They are entertainers, they have to make money and survive. They don't lack in visuals or vocals, but how can they earn popularity if they don't do risky stuffs? The competition in K-Pop is always intense, kids from smaller companies with no connection have barely no chance.

And Stellar was on 1N2D before? Which season?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Didn't they release another track that was almost the opposite of their first?

    ReplyDelete
  18. psht. if you think korean parents are bad, you should see brown parents. If i ever did something like this, i would shave my own head and send myself to the temple.

    ReplyDelete
  19. The biggest thing I get out of this is that 7 months ago?! Time, stop flying.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I was at a music show recording in Korea and watched a lesser known girl group perform and the way their male fans just leered at them and shouted at them, it was really quite intimidating. The girls looked visibly put off and frightened. And it sounds a lot like what Stellar has to deal with. It sucks to see a group of women treated in that way :\

    casual misogyny, real cute.
sincerely hope this person isn't and never becomes a parent.

Girl groups exposing skin : Sluts !!!
    srsly ㅗ

  23. ^ I see this comment everywhere...

  24. I knew about them since debut, and they sucked ass at everything. When they came up with the sexy concept, their abilities as performers came out of nowhere. Like, the singing had improved so much and they looked really good (not sure about the dancing though). Both Marionette and Mask are jams, awesome songs. Wish them the best!

Anyway, did you guys like their last song--Mask?
I liked it ever better than Marionette. They seriously have some great songs. I hope they can get a reality show so I can learn more about them.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I love them, haters must be some jealous bitches

    ReplyDelete
  27. depends on your culture

    ReplyDelete
  28. oppa didn't mean it!!!!!!September 10, 2014 at 9:44 PM

That's a really cruel, you don't even no her/him to wish something like that. And he/she might change in the future and most importantly, their culture is different and you need to respect that.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Not as good as Marionette, but it's a nice song regardless.

    ReplyDelete
  30. For me it was great. I'm a sucker for slower songs.

    ReplyDelete
  31. lmao stop using "culture" as an excuse for someone being ignorant. you don't even know their culture so just be quiet. Even if you did, "culture" is no excuse for discrimination.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I like them and their songs, but it is a damn shame they had to go the shock method to get attention. "Marionette" and "Mask" are actually good songs.

    ReplyDelete
  33. But logically, just because someone shows alot of skin or acts sexy does NOT mean they are a "slut"...It has nothing to do with cultural differences imo.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Desperate soldiers are desperate.

  35. oppa didn't mean it!!!!!!September 10, 2014 at 9:51 PM

It's not about discrimination, I know I wouldn't be happy nor proud to see my son/daughter stripping on TV and rubbing their butts/spreading their legs. Most parents don't like seeing their kids like that.

    ReplyDelete
  36. yeah but shaving their heads isn't the right thing to do,they are adults and they can do whatever they want with their lives.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Is there a girl group the soldiers don't like or fawn over?

    ReplyDelete
  38. most parents don't like seeing their kids get punched in the face either. they don't shave their head and send them to the temple for that

    ReplyDelete
  39. Their follow up single "Mask" is really elegant. It's sexy concept but done in a classy way and the song is gorgeous. Unfortunately it didn't have enough shock value to it, and has also been poorly promoted, so it hasn't even charted on the Gaon chart :(

    ReplyDelete
  40. lmao better negative attention then none at all. pretty sure they expected this but dont care as long as the name still rings something

    ReplyDelete
  41. 5. [+103, -4] Well duh, soldiers don't care who you are as long as you show the most skin possible
this tho. they need that fap material.

    ReplyDelete
  42. i still listen to marionette! but it really is sad that they had to push the envelope so hard simply to be noticed in a market that's so saturated with idols. having a good song is not enough. sometimes the popular ones aren't even good songs lol.

    ReplyDelete
  43. But this is their article

    ReplyDelete
  44. Wait til you have an African father and a Jewish mother to know the real meaning of guilt and repentance. Shalom LOL

    ReplyDelete
  45. can't really tell if this is sarcasm or not

    ReplyDelete
  46. 4L was worse but I'm not gonna judge any girl groups. It's so hard to become well-known. I think it's even harder for girl groups than it is for boy groups.

Anyway, when will people realize what people do on stage is not how they act or what they do in real life most of the time?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Truth. Did the company originally mediaplay about Marionette or was that just news/netizens? Why didn't they do the same for Mask if so.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Marionette was such a bop. I remember when one of them was on one of MBLAQ's shows...I think the one in the right in the pic in the article?

    ReplyDelete
  49. They don't care about negativity because at they are getting some attention. At least that is what one girl from the group said.

Lost respect for them after there video, lost hope after that interview. They didn't even try.

    ReplyDelete
  50. The different ways skin exposure is taken by KPOP fans really makes me laugh. The double standard is so strong, and not a gender double standard but a biased one. While their concept in general was a bit "cheap" I can't help but laugh that when certain "2nd generation" girl groups show skin, they get praised and it can hardly be seen as skin exposure but more just confidence. I hope KPOP fans gain some common sense because I seriously think it kills brain cells at this point.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I'm completely fine with them going down this road, they deserve some popularity. Their songs, with the exception of Rocket Girl, have always been good.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Culture does affect how you view things and how you view people. Showing too much skin to many cultures is a lost of modesty and morals. That person is now a dirty person a "slut, whore, hoe etc." Doesn't really matter the technicality of the word, because no uses those words to it percise meaning these days.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Double standard is there and will always be there. It will never change and will always be unfair. That's life.

    ReplyDelete
  54. 3. [+539, -146] I'd rather singers like Ori than them

DONT GO THERE. DONT YOU DARE.

    ReplyDelete
  55. F(x)? I don't think they've ever performed for the army.

    ReplyDelete
  56. but srsly what is the problem? it's their body if they want to be recognized for having a huge vagina they can

    ReplyDelete
  57. uhh where is the sense?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Im joking around and being serious at the same time. I love stellar and I dont want people saying bad things about them. However I am referring to Chris Crockers "Leave Britney alone" video. Lop

    ReplyDelete
  59. LOL I know im referring to chris crockers "leave britney alone" video

    ReplyDelete
  60. I like their songs and I didn't care if they only came out with sexy concept because those girls sexy as F and all of them have great body. Their sexy concept suits them well. Stellar Go Go Fighting!!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. 8. [+79, -4] If my daughter ever did something like this, I'd shave her head and send her to the temple.

lmao! but I would do the same. hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  62. Oh they wouldn't count then. I should clarify, I mean out of those that actually performed for the army.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  64. I honestly don't mind super sexual concepts, probably cause I'm desensitized to it living in the states, BUT it makes me cringe when it's obvious the artist is doing it solely for attention.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Have they performed for the army?

    ReplyDelete
  66. Nah, their agency did HEAPS of media play and it worked. It was actually an amazing promotional campaign. They went really far with it and it paid off. Then came time for "Mask" and they did ZERO media play and just dropped it out of nowhere with less than a week's notice. Half the reason it's flopping so hard is because nobody even knows that it's out. STELLAR aren't even on all the music programs. Many of the music shows they performed on once, or not at all. It's a really bad era for them which sucks because the single is amazing, so is the concept and the choreography.

    ReplyDelete
  67. The society cares more about skin exposure. Sad but true. Most of the time, unless you're from big companies, you wouldn't get the last stage

    ReplyDelete
  68. It's not showing too much skin made me looked at them as sluts but the fact that they're actually enjoying it and even feel proud when the soldiers were eyeing them, seems like they're only focused on selling their body, not talents. Thirsty for popularity and attention, how cheap.

    ReplyDelete
  69. [+79, -4] If my daughter ever did something like this, I'd shave her head and send her to the temple.

I'm sure 100%, my mom will never do this ~

  71. this is sad reality :( they do gain recognition because of their controversial music video. same like few groups (AOA and girls day as an example) which gain recognition and success when they do sexy concept. this is reality... i miss AOA band-kind-of-music and Girls Day' catchy girly song :(( but thats true.. unless u are from big company like SM... (red velvet who just debuting) u dont have any chance in the middle of strict competition in today's industry..

    ReplyDelete
  72. don't recall if they've performed at the army, but here's a similar event for the police academy

  74. At least the 1st commenter sees the problem...

    ReplyDelete
  75. What were they thinking...Mask could have gone somewhere, there's a reason Marionette had shock effect, I can't believe they thought it was a good idea to drop the single without any promotions.

    ReplyDelete
  76. . [+108, -6] Their music video was indeed the dirtiest I've seen in the history of K-Pop.

    Troublemaker???

    ReplyDelete
  77. I know I'm shocked as well. They should've dropped a couple of video teasers showing the scenes where the members are touching each other, and used it for media play so everybody would expect something shocking. Then they could drop the full MV and pleasantly surprise everybody, then media play about how they're showing off a more elegant side this time lol. "Marionette" was probably the most controversial sexy concept of the year so it's crazy that their agency wasn't smart enough to keep the momentum going with the right follow up.

"Marionette" had so much media play, they even launched a Facebook campaign where you could vote on things for the members to do, like sexy pose and cute pose, and then they'd do it for you and post the photo. I'm pretty surprised that they could go from such a great promo campaign to just nothing. Maybe they got a new manager or something?

    ReplyDelete
  78. well that's you. Personally I don't see the need in showing skin just to feel sexy. who are you trying to feel sexy for? yourself or men? truth is most people dress the way they do because of the opposite sex, to get attention and a lot of people here find that slutty, that is, deliberating exposing skin to attract the opposite sex. for men too, when they show off to much skin, they irritate people here though not has bad as women since they have only one thing to hide. that's why I said culture.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Ummm... the difference is one is where they parents feel disappointed by their child's actions... the other one is that they're super concerned about the health of their child after getting an injury and why the hell anyone would punch them in the first place and to stop it from happening in the future.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Why is this such a problem? If they want to do that then let them

    ReplyDelete
  81. Well, it is accurate theres no denying that.

    ReplyDelete
  82. It COMPLETELY does. My parents are Indian and they would really rather not me wear short shorts (not that I like them anyways, to be honest, but that's besides the point) and would rather me wear more... covering clothes while still feeling good about myself. But most parents in Canada don't think wearing short shorts is a bad thing, but just another form of fashion. I mean, my parents aren't going to think I'm a slut, but the fact is, they don't like when people expose their skin too much. Culture plays a big factor in these types of things, you can't simply ignore it.

  88. As Expected of Sweetune. They compose nice songs for 9M, Infinite and previously KARA.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Am I just the only one who like their song? i love Marionette and Mask tbh...

    ReplyDelete
  90. In the context of Roald Dahl, slut means an "immoral woman". But I understand you view & loathe "slut-shaming"

    ReplyDelete
  91. Gayoung: "To people who don't like skin exposure, it's true that they're uncomfortable with us. But even those people have begun to wonder what we brought out next with our new song release and a lot more have listened to it."

Trufax. I didn't care about their first 3 title songs. Only until Marionette was released did I put some focus on them.

    2. [+685, -29] I'm more curious about 4L than Stellar... why is it so quiet...

Seriously, where are they now? What are they doing now?

    ReplyDelete
  92. Their song was produced by Sweetune. Marionette and Mask are really good

    ReplyDelete
